I realize the beta is mainly for developing sugars at this point however there seems to be no clear information as to when a proper beta will arrive and the website/blog seems to be a black hole of feedback so I’m going to toss out some general questions regarding Espresso.

1. Right now the Espresso “Workspace” holds all currently open documents (in place of a tabbed interface as found within Coda). While this approach is unique it tends to fall apart for people like myself who opt to name documents index.php and nest them within directories. Essentially, virtually all of my files are named index.php and so picking any single file out of a stack of identically named files is tricky. Would you consider an option to show the path information on a mouseover? I just need an easier way to manage open files.

2. The Tools sidebar currently houses the Code navigator and not much else. Will this also be home to snippets/clips and the CSS properties (as seen in CSSEdit)?

3. Will we be able to categorize snippets/clips?

4. Windows don’t seem to remember settings between application launches. For example, I have to resize my left and right sidebars and activate my search fields each time Espresso is open. Is this a UI bug or working as intended?

5. Will the live preview window have the same X-ray capabilities as CSSEdit? If so, will I have to manually set which document is being previewed (as in CSSEdit) or will Espresso be smart enough to know which file is open?

6. Espresso does not appear to have the ability to preview images. Is this slated to be added? Within Coda one can open an image to get dimensions/properties as well as to preview the file.

That’s about it. I apologize for posting this in the sugars forum but I’m not sure there’s any other proper venue for this sort of feedback at this time.

I emailed feedback a while ago (at least two weeks) and I’ve not even had a confirmation of “we have your email and we’ll get back to you once things stop being so hectic around here” which is what I assume is the issue.

I honestly doubt MacRabbit/Jan is answering any questions about future features right now; they’re probably swamped just figuring out what’s a legitimate bug report and what isn’t, much less figuring out what to respond to, what to act on, etc.

I’d answer your questions if I could, but I know as much as you do so we’ll all just have to play the waiting game for a bit longer.

I’ve had a reply from Jan (on Christmas day of all days) and can confirm that things are really hectic for him so don’t expect him to be too active on the forum for a bit.
